Action begins with “awareness” that there are challenges or opportunities. No matter how small step is the beginning of everything. I believe that Sugadaira Highlands will be the place to give you that “awareness”.

これは、「オンライン寺子屋」の考え方の基本にある、旧薩摩藩（今の鹿児島県）で行われていた「郷中（ごじゅう）教育」（近所の武士の子供同士で学び合う教育制度）の中で使われていた言葉です。2018年NHKの大河ドラマ「西郷（せご）どん」にもその場面がありました。西郷隆盛や大久保利通の話とともに、この言葉が紹介されました。『ぐずぐず考えてないでサッサと実行しろ』という意味の言葉です。慎重に考えて行動するのも大事ですが、思い切って行動していくことで見えてくることもあります。

同じようなことをフランスの哲学者も言っています。「悲観主義は気分に属し、楽観主義は意志に属する」（Le pessimisme est d’humeur ; l’optimisme est de volonté.）。

明治維新の偉人たちは困難に直面したときこそ前向きに物事をとらえて前へ進んでゆく力が、いかに大切かを教えてくれています。そしてコロナ禍の今は「実行力」を発揮しやすい時代になっているということを知ってほしいと思います。。

運動会でのかけっこ。順番待ちの時、体に悪いと思うくらい緊張しまくりますよね。ところがいったん走り出すと緊張とか、不安がなくなります。つまり、身体活動や態度で感情をコントロールするんだということです。

行動は、そこに何らかの課題やチャンスがあると「気づく」ことから始まります。どんなに小さな一歩も、そこからすべてが始まるのです。菅平高原が皆さんにその「気づき」を与える場所となると信じています。
