新しい世界へ羽ばたく講師たち — 感謝と激励を込めて
日本では3月は送別のシーズンです。「サファイアONLINE寺子屋」でも、これまでオンライン講師として尽力してくれた4名が、それぞれの新しい世界へと旅立ちます。本日はその中から2名のエピソードをご紹介します。
■ 東京大学総長大賞を受賞したAさん
東京大学大学院を卒業するAさんは、その卓越した研究実績が認められ、このたび「東京大学総長大賞」を受賞されました。 数年間、彼が研究の苦労や喜びを傍らで語ってくれる姿を通じ、生徒たちが「学ぶ楽しさ」を肌で感じ、共有できたことは、私たちにとっても代えがたい財産となりました。4月からは大学教員として、さらに学問の道を究めていかれることでしょう。
■ 外務省職員としてアジアの大使館へ赴くBさん
東京外国語大学で言語に励んでいたBさんは、長年の夢と努力が実を結び、外務省職員として東南アジアに位置する国の大使館に赴任することが決まりました。 先日執り行われた送別会の席でも、「先生、この本はリスニング力が飛躍的に身につきますよ！」と、出発の間際まで生徒たちのために良書を薦めてくれました（早速、「サファイア」でも紹介させていただきました）。
また、彼はその席で「7月からパスポートの発行手数料が改定されますが、海外研修中に紛失すると再発行は非常に大変です。参加者の皆さんはくれぐれも注意してくださいね」と、早くも外務省職員としてのプロ意識を覗かせてくれました。
旅立つ4名の講師たちは、今後もサポーターとして私たちの活動に関わってくれる予定です。彼らの背中を見て育つ生徒たちが、後に続くことを願って止みません。新天地でのさらなるご活躍を、心よりお祈りしております。
Lecturers Spreading Their Wings Towards a New World — With Gratitude and Encouragement
In Japan, March is the season for farewells. At ‘Sapphire ONLINE Terakoya’ too, four individuals who have dedicated themselves as online lecturers are setting off to pursue their own new paths. Today, we would like to share the stories of two of them.
■ Mr A, recipient of the University of Tokyo President’s Award
Mr A, who is graduating from the University of Tokyo Graduate School, has been awarded the ‘University of Tokyo President’s Award’ in recognition of his outstanding research achievements. Over the past few years, as he shared the trials and joys of his research with us, our students were able to experience and share the ‘joy of learning’ first-hand, which has become an invaluable asset for us all. From April, he will continue to pursue his academic path as a university lecturer.
■ Mr B, who is heading to an embassy in Asia as a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official
Mr B, who had devoted himself to language studies at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, has seen his long-held dream and years of hard work come to fruition: he has been appointed to serve at an embassy in a Southeast Asian country as a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official. Even at the farewell party held the other day, right up until the moment of his departure, he was recommending excellent books to his students, saying, ‘Teacher, this book will dramatically improve your listening skills!’ (We promptly featured it in ‘Sapphire’ as well).
Furthermore, at the gathering, he remarked, ‘Passport issuance fees will be revised from July, but if you lose your passport whilst on an overseas training programme, getting it reissued is extremely difficult. Please do take great care, everyone.” This already gave us a glimpse of his professional mindset as a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official.
The four instructors setting off are planning to continue supporting our activities as supporters. We sincerely hope that the students, who are growing up watching them, will follow in their footsteps. We wholeheartedly wish them every success in their new posts.
