5月22日(日）10:00から2回目の説明会を行いました。参加者の皆さんにゴールドコーストでの学校生活とこのサファイアプログラムでの経験を現地から語ってくれた拓人君（現在All Saints Anglican School Year11, 高校2年)。実は3年前テニスサマーキャンプに参加したOB。わずか2週間でゴールドコーストに魅了され、そのまま現在の学校に転校しています。折しも新型コロナ感染症が世界的に蔓延し始めるときのことです。

私も、拓人君を久しぶりに画面越しに拝見しましたが、すっかりたくましくなっていました。神戸のご実家のお母さまともそのあとお話ししましたが、「オーストラリアを楽しんでいるようです」とお喜びでした。それもそのはず、拓人君は転校してから、ラグビーやサーフィンをやっていて、本当にAussie lifeをエンジョイしていることが伝わってきました。また私が感心したのは、自分の進む道〈これからどうしていきたいか〉を自分から話してくれたことです。ぜひその夢を実現させてほしいと願いました。

凧が一番高く上がるのは、風に向かっている時です。風に流されている時ではありません。拓人君の話を聞いていてこう感じました。

感染症、戦争、明日は何が自分の身に起きるかはわかりません。事実、この「オーストラリア研修プログラム」も過去2年実施されず、参加できなかった人もいます。このチャンスをもう一度よく考えてほしいと思います。

A second information session was held on Sunday 22 May at 10:00. Takuto (currently in Year 11 at All Saints Anglican School, 2nd year of high school) spoke to the participants about his school life in Gold Coast and his experience with the Sapphire Programme. Takuto was actually an alumnus of a tennis summer camp three years ago, but after just two weeks he was so taken by Gold Coast that he transferred directly to his current school. This was at a time when the COVID-19 infection was beginning to spread worldwide.

I also saw Takuto through the screen for the first time in a long time, and he had grown very strong. I spoke to his mother at his parents’ home in Kobe afterwards, and she was delighted to hear that he was enjoying Australia. I could tell that Takuto was really enjoying his time in Aussie life, playing rugby and surfing since he moved to the new school. I was also impressed by the fact that he told me what he wanted to do in the future. I really hoped that he would make his dream come true.
