合宿のしおり

現在　新型コロナ感染症は人々の行動に制限を与えています。今回の菅平高原合宿は参加者の「特別な夏」に素晴らしい「宝物」をもたらしました。当センターに合宿を実施するか中止するかという迷いは全くありませんでした。それは大人の都合で子どもの人生の扉を強制的に閉ざしてしまいたくないという思いからです。

一方　この合宿の成功は　コーチとグループリーダー抜きには考えられません。サファイアがこれまで行ってきた海外研修もそうでしたが　コーチの熱意とスキルは　今後「オンライン寺子屋」の講師に引き継がれていきます。

今回は米国大学留学中の4年生がテニスコーチ　トレッキングは東京外国語大学の3年生がグループリーダーを務めました。

この合宿の主な行事を挙げてみましょう。

①ニューヨーク、ゴールドコースト（オーストラリア）からのオンライン特別講座など。

②シュナイダーの丘（スキー場）での草滑り

、唐沢の滝遊び

、ペルセウス座星空観測会、根子岳登山とトレッキングなどの多彩なアクティビティ。

➂ラファ・ナダル・アカデミーで日本人初の指導スタッフコーチによるテニス指導。（テニス班）

④参加小学生対象の「オンライン寺子屋」授業体験。

⑤英語（岡嶋先生）や数学（四方先生）の学校で学ぶ教科がいかに生活や仕事に密接に関係しているかという特別授業。

四方義啓センター長の特別講座「医学と医者の関係・数学を学ぶ意味」は　先生の軽妙でユーモアあふれる語り口で　なぜ医学に数学・物理・化学さらに生物を学ぶのか参加者に気づかせてくれました。コロナ禍の中　名古屋から駆けつけていただいた　80有余歳の先生と貴重な時間を共有できたことは　参加児童・生徒にとって貴重で素晴らしい体験となりました。きっと後年　この時間が「宝物」だったことに気づくと思います。それを先生もわかってはるばる名古屋から駆けつけていらっしゃったのだと思っています。多謝。

※当初予定していた海外研修を急遽3月になって国内研修に切り替えました。8月までの4カ月半の間に社会環境が随分悪化していきました。しかし　新幹線はお盆前の祝日（10日）とお盆の入り（13日）にも関わらず　例年とは異なり　貸し切りかと思われる空席がありました。ホテルはと言うと　収容人数310名のところに　今回は帝京大学ラグビー部と私たちのグループ　数組の家族客のみでした。菅平では最大のコート数を誇り　テニス部に人気のホテルにもかかわらず　今年は一校の宿泊もありませんでした。その中でゆったりとした時間を過ごすことができたのは贅沢な時間でした。

さて2020年は参加者の人生に「特別な夏」をプレゼントしてくれました。１年前にだれが想像したでしょう。この夏にこの場所で　出会った人たちの時間・空間は偶然のようで　必然だったのかもしれません。日本人の7割が帰省や旅行をしないという中で　ニュースに踊らされず　準備を周到にして参加していただいた参加者と保護者の皆様には敬意と感謝を申し上げます。

この合宿を盛り上げていただいたニューヨークの幸田先生には講座の後アドバイスをいただき、12日に急遽、ペルセウス座流星群観測会を行いました。「流れ星を10個見つけたよ」と言う児童もいました。皆、満天の星々に圧倒されていました。

ゴールドコーストのチャンドラー真由美様（ECOAST)とAll Saints Anglican Schoolに留学中のひなた君　学校を案内してくれた教務部長のMichael 先生　同じくゴールドコーストにあるGold Coast Christian Collegeのナターシャ先生　数学授業のMs Harris　事前準備していただいた ICT担当のDunkan先生のお蔭で　オンラインで授業参加させていただきました。同日にニューヨーク（米国）とゴールドコースト（豪州）の2か所とつながりました。これは子どもたちだけでなく　そこに居合わせた大人にとっても初体験です。次回はエストニア・フィンランド・スペイン・ドイツなどＥＵ諸国とのオンライン相互交流を考えています。

日本のテレビ・雑誌・新聞だけでなく　ＢＢＣや海外のニュースソースを求める必要があります。そのためにも英語を本気で学んでほしいと思います。岡嶋先生がそのような話をされていましたね。ニュースは作られるものです。多方面から正しい情報を取り入れ　自分の頭で考えてください。30年近く前に高校生だった岡嶋さんは　今回私の「先生」になっていました。また30年たつと　次は今回の参加者が「先生」になっている可能性はじゅうぶんあります。またどこかでお会いしましょう。

また何よりも　この合宿で献身的に働いていただいた田村コーチと吉村グループリーダーには感謝申し上げます。現在　大学院試験を間近に控えていたり　ィンターンシップ中のオンライン講師が多い中で　２人が手を挙げてくれました。2人もきっと多くを学んだことと思います。ありがとうございました。

At this camp, we switched from the originally planned overseas training to domestic training in March. The social environment deteriorated considerably during the four and a half months until August. However, the Shinkansen had vacant seats that seemed to be reserved, unlike the usual year, despite the holidays (10th) before the Bon Festival and the start of the Bon Festival (13th). The hotel had a capacity of 310 people, this time only the Teikyo University rugby club, our group, and a few family guests. Despite having the largest number of courts in Sugadaira and being a popular hotel in the tennis club, we didn’t even have one school this year. Among them, we had a luxurious time to spend a relaxing time.

By the way, 2020 gave participants a “special summer” as a gift. Who would have imagined it one year ago? The time and space of the people I met at this place this summer seemed to be a coincidence, and it may have been inevitable. While 70% of Japanese do not go home or travel, we would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to all the participants and parents who participated in the preparations without being disturbed by the news.

Dr Koda in New York, who presented a lecture at this camp, gave us some advice after the course, and on the 12th, we held a Perseus meteor shower observation meeting in a hurry. Some students said, “I’ve found 10 shooting stars.” Everyone was overwhelmed by the stars.

Mayumi (ECOAST) in Gold Coast, Hinata, who is studying at All Saints Anglican School,  and Michael, who is Director of the Educational Department there, showed us around the school.

Natasha ‘sensei’ at Gold Coast Christian College, Ms Harris’s math class. Thanks to Duncan, who is in charge of ICT, prepared for the event, it ended in a great success.

On the same day, I was connected with two locations of New York (US) and Gold Coast (Australia). Next time I’m thinking of online interaction with EU such as Estonia, Finland, Spain and Germany.

We should call for not only Japanese TV/magazines/newspapers, but also BBC and overseas news sources. Therefore, I want students to learn English seriously. Mr Okajima was talking about that. News is made. Take in right information from many angles and think for yourself. Mr Okajima, who was a high school student nearly 30 years ago, became my “teacher” this time. In another 30 years, there is a good possibility that you will be  “a next teacher.” We’ll see you somewhere.

Above all, I would like to thank Coach Tamura and Group Leader Yoshimura for their dedication to this camp. Currently, there are many online instructors who are approaching the graduate exam or are doing internships, and both raised their hands. I think they have learned a lot.
